Self Tube Feeder
Self Tube Feeder Logo

John was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue and throat in 2004. His treatment included surgery to remove part of his esophagus and tongue, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. After surgery the doctors inserted a gastrostomy (PEG) tube to insure he would get adequate nutrition and be able to take his medication. The treatment was successful but he continued to have problems swallowing food. He participated in speech therapy and had several VitalStim® treatments. His dysphagia has caused several episodes of aspiration pneumonia.

We had planned on an active retirement, but it was no longer possible. We designed the Self Tube Feeder to permit him to feed himself independently anywhere. This has allowed us to start traveling again and enjoying life more fully. And I am no longer a 24/7 caregiver.
